WEEK 1
9/29/01- 6 days old! Well the first week was to say beyond stressful for us. The second day, the runt of the litter (who we affectionately call midget) started to fade on us. She was one of the pups in distress during labor and who came out with a little Meconium Staining. She was the smallest of the bunch at 9.1 oz. We tube fed her every 2 hours because she was even too weak to nurse. We were so tired and worried we couldn't even see straight until about Thursday. She is doing much better now weighing a whopping 15.1 oz!
The pups can recognize our sent when we get into the whelping box and eagerly try to suck on us thinking we are another mama. We have been supplementing them with a great formula given to us by Karen at Whelp Wise (the service we signed up for that wound up saving the life of the little pup and maybe another). When phoebe is being picky about eating I put a little of the formula in her food and she gobbles it right up. I feed her often because she looks so skinny now and she has a lot of mouths to feed. They are growing like weeds and are getting stronger by the day. We are really getting attached to them and we can't wait until they develop more personality characteristics. We color coded the pups with nail polish to make it easier on us to identify them since we still weigh them for the fun of it. We will take individual pictures of the pups as soon as their eyes open. Here is the breakdown: GIRLS Purple Girl: Birth weight 13.4, now 21.8 oz Yellow Girl: Birth -13.3, now -17.4oz. Rainbow Girl: Birth- 13.6, now- 23.4oz White Girl: Birth -13.3, now- 25.2oz. Pink Girl: Birth-9.1, now- 15.1oz. Silver Girl: Birth- 13.1 now- 21.6oz. BOYS Orange Boy: Birth- 12.4 now-21.9oz. Black Boy: Birth- 12.7, now- 19.3oz. Blue Boy: Birth- 15.4, now -24.8oz. Red Boy: Birth- 13.4, now 22.6oz. Green Boy: Birth- 13.7, now- 23.5oz.
Phoebe is being a GREAT momma. For the first two days she hardly slept. She is dosing off more and more here and there when she gets a chance. She sometimes acts funny as you can see here she wanted to lay in the basket we transport the pup in. I have no idea why, it doesn't look comfortable but we found her sleeping in it a few times.
