JUST BORN

9/24/01-  Phoebe was having contractions off and on since Saturday night.  On Sunday night they increased but by Monday morning still no puppies. All the while I was monitoring heartbeats with the Doppler and noticed two that were really slow. The monitoring service said that the position they were in they would be last to whelp so she didn't think they would survive.  So off we went to the vet for a c-section.  We got to watch and help.  Puppies were coming out everywhere!  Phoebe lost a lot of blood but she is doing well now.  She took to the puppies right away and has been a super mom.  They all seem strong and healthy and Phoebe has her waist back.

9/25/01-  We slept in shifts last night.  We made sure Phoebe was doing her job and we supplemented some of the little guys by bottle feeding them or tube feeding.  Phoebe has been great.  She was up all night feeding them and cleaning them.  I am very impressed she is such a great mother for her first litter and after having a c-section.  "Hi, wake up here are your babies..."  Talk about instant motherhood.  We will weigh them again this afternoon and in about a week we will put colored ribbon on their necks to better identify them.  Right now we are using nail polish.
