THIS IS MY PERSONAL PROTOCOL- I am not a Veterinarian, nor claim this protocol is better than any other. I have developed my protocol based on personal research and guidance form my traditional vet and my homeopathic vet.  I suggest you discuss vaccination protocols with your vet after you read the current research on the subject, and by all means ASK QUESTIONSYOU ARE YOU ANIMALS ONLY ADVOCATE!

I have put a lot of thought into this protocol when it came time to vaccinate my litter.  I read as much research as I could and came up with a protocol that was not as strict as some, but not as lenient as others.  I feel strongly that the research does have significant merit, as 27 vet schools across the country have now modified their vaccination protocol.  My protocol combines traditional and homeopathic elements.

If your current veterinarian has a problem following this schedule for the puppy, I suggest you print out this page for him and have him look at the web pages LINKS provided below.  If he looks at the research and still has a problem, I suggest you find another vet.  The following is a general protocol with variations in timing, but the highlighted number is what I would like my puppy buyers to follow.  A NOTE ON PREVENTIONTry not to take the puppy around strange dogs or where other dogs defecate or urinate frequently until after 14 weeks, preferably 16 weeks.  A note on NUTRITION.  For a few days after vaccination it is a good idea to add extra Vitamin C (ester), Milk Thistle or Dandelion, B-complex, and Selenium to their food.

My Protocol:

Week 7-8:  DA2PP  (modified live)

Week 10-11 : DA2PP MLV Administer Thuja 30c. Within an hour of the vaccination.  Withhold food for 60 minutes.  Repeat in 6-8 hours if necessary.   Do not touch pellet with you fingers.  You can crush and put in between gums or administer the pill in the mouth.  Withhold food for 1 hour.   In one week, REMEMBER to administer Sulfur 6x once daily for 7 days.  Same instructions.

Week 13-14:  Progard (Distemper/ Parvo) MLV  or DA2PP  (Proguard available at: http://www.dresslersdog.com/store/vacco1.html Have you vet order it before you come)  If for some reason this not available, you can substitute another DA2PP, but I prefer the Progard. REMEMBER to administer Thuja 30c.. Within an hour of the vaccination.    In one week, REMEMBER to administer Sulfur 6x once daily for 7 days.  Same instructions.

Week 19-20 - Progard (Distemper/ Parvo) MLV    or DA2PP  REMEMBER to administer Thuja 30C. Within an hour of the vaccination.

Week 24-25 - Rabies (3 yr. Killed - Fort Dodge is the best brand) DO NOT GIVE ANY OTHER VACCINATIONS WHEN YOU GIVE RABIES.  ALWAYS WAIT 3-4 WEEKS BEFORE ADMINISTERING BOOSTERS.  THIS APPLIES TO ALL AGES.  REMEMBER TO ADMINISTER THE LYSSIN 30c. Given to you within 1 hour.  Do not touch pellet with you fingers.  You can crush and put in between gums or administer the pill in the mouth.  Withhold for and water for 1 hour.

12 months- Rabies (3 yr. killed) REMEMBER TO ADMINISTER THE LYSSIN 30c. within 1 hour.  Withhold for and water for 1 hour.

14-16 months- PROGARD.  or DA2PP  REMEMBER to administer Thuja 30C. Within an hour of the vaccination.    In one week, REMEMBER to administer Sulfur 6x once daily for 7 days.  Same instructions.

Age 3: PROGARD or DA2PP (OPTIONAL) Some research is finding that if the booster is given at 22-28 weeks, it will provide lifetime immunity so I will probably choose to titer test first.   REMEMBER to administer Thuja 30C. Within an hour of the vaccination.

Age 3yrs, and 2-3 months .-  Rabies (Killed 3 yr)  (if a booster is not received, give this at age 3 yrs.instead of 3 yrs and 2-3 months).  REMEMBER TO ADMINISTER THE LYSSIN 30c. within 1 hour.  Withhold for and water for 1 hour.

Age 6: Rabies (killed 3 yr.)  REMEMBER TO ADMINISTER THE LYSSIN 30c. within 1 hour.  Withhold for and water for 1 hour.

Any other Rabies Vac. is optional at this point as far as I am concerned. After age 7-8, I consider my dog geriatric and I avoid vaccination.  By law, you may have to vaccinate depending on where you live if you choose to follow this law.

REMEMBER!!

  • Never vaccinate an animal with symptoms of acute or chronic health problems, or at the time of surgery or any other physical or emotional stress.

  • Never give vaccinations with any other medication or procedure (like anesthesia/surgery or heart worm, flea med. etc)  It is better to wait a few weeks.

  • Never give the rabies vaccine at the same time as any other vaccine.  Use only a 3 year KILLED Rabies Vaccine for adults and give it separate from other vaccines by at least 2 and preferably 3-4 weeks.  Within an hour of the vaccination, administer Lyssin 30C.

  • Never vaccinate a bitch in Season, or a Pregnant or lactating bitch.

  • Administer Lyssin 30C. Within an hour of the booster vaccination.  In one week,  administer Sulfur 6x once daily for 7 days.  Same instructions.
